Our Story, Our Mission.

Food and Flowers was built around a pretty simple idea:

People should know where their food comes from and who raised it. We believe local food matters. Not because it is trendy, but because it creates healthier families, stronger communities, and a better connection to the land around us. What started as a small family farm has slowly grown into something bigger than we ever expected. Today, Food and Flowers is not just a farm store. It is a place where people can support local agriculture, meet the people who produce their food, and help rebuild the kind of rural community that was once common across Iowa.

We are Nick and Amy Schumacher, and we operate Food and Flowers in rural Charter Oak in Crawford County. We care deeply about fresh local food, regenerative agriculture, small business, and keeping rural communities alive and growing. Everything we are building centers on family, hard work, and creating opportunities for others. Whether it is through our farm store, the Shop Local Market, partnerships with other local producers, or community events, our goal is to create something meaningful that brings people together. We believe small towns still matter. We believe local farmers still matter. And we believe good food can connect people in a way very few things can.

From family tables to community markets

The Food and Flower Farm was founded with a mission to provide fresh, local food to our family and friends. As the word spread, market demand soon followed. Today, Food and Flowers serves several farmers' markets throughout Western Iowa. In February of 2026,  the Schumacher Family proudly opened a brick-and-mortar farm stand in Downtown Charter Oak, Iowa, bringing our harvest directly to you.

Beyond the ordinary: Our unique offerings
